Northern Nevada is a really beautiful place to visit and it’s packed with tons of places to run! Most of my favorite places are hiking trails, but people run on them all the time. Here is a list of some of my favorites.
Jones Creek/White’s Creek Trail
This is a 10 mile trail and it’s definitely for the more intermediate hiker or runner. There are a few steep parts that I find myself walking up. The trail forms a loop and you cross two creeks. It’s very well kept and is located on Mt Rose Hwy in South Reno.
Thomas Creek/Dry Pond Trail
This is probably my favorite trail. I love running along the Thomas Creek. The flowers are gorgeous during the summer and there is a lot of equestrian traffic. The whole thing adds up to about 5 or 6 miles. You start off on the Thomas Creek Trail which is located on Timberline Drive off of Mt Rose Hwy in South Reno. Then you can fork off onto the Dry Pond Trail. This trail takes you up to the Dry Pond and then it intersects with the Jones Creek Trail. You could definitely hike or run both trails if you’re feeling ambitious!
Hunter Creek Trail
This is a fast 5 mile out and back trail in Old Southwest Reno. You have to go through the Caughlin Ranch neighborhood to get to the trailhead but the trail is anything but suburban. The thing I like about this trail is that you go through two different terrains-desert and forest- before you get to a lovely waterfall at the turnaround. You could continue on to Hunter Lake, but I haven’t been that adventurous yet.
